Young Haley Joel Osment

Former child star, Haley Joel Osment was born on April 10, 1988, in Los Angeles, California, USA. He started his career at the very young age of four. He kickstarted his career with a Pizza Hut TV commercial that was held in a shopping mall. Later that year, he featured in his first television role.

Osment studied at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Cañada, California. Back in Prep school, Haley was active in sports as he wrestled, and played football, golf, and basketball. Growing up, Osment had a great love for lizards; he had two leopard geckos that he kept as pets. His favorite game was to trap and release lizards. He does this on every vacation he has as a child.

His first feature film was “Forrest Gump” where he played the role of Forrest Grump’s son in 1994. Since then, he appeared in several TV series like “Thunder Alley” in 1994, “The Jeff Foxworthy Show” in 1995, and the final season of “Murphy Brown” taking the place of Dyllan Christopher who acted in the role of Murphy’s son, Avery.

He rose to fame after playing Cole Sear in the exceptional movie “The Sixth Sense” in 1999 where he shared the screen with Bruce Willis. His role earned him the Saturn Award for the Best Young Actor. After this, he was nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Supporting Actor but lost to Micheal Caine whom he later co-starred with in “Secondhand Lions” (2003). After his sixth SEnse role, he was touted as one of the best child actors of his time and became the eighth youngest nominee for the Academy Award in 2000. Osment continued to be looked at as one of the most promising young stars in Hollywood.

Artificial Intelligence by Steven Spielberg was another movie that won Osment a place among the leading young actors in the industry. He got his second Saturn Award after his appearance in the film.

For a period of two years, Osment did not appear on the screen; he decided to take a break to focus more on his voice-over work, promotional tours, and TV appearances. In 2003, he made a comeback with a blockbuster movie, Secondhand Lion. In 2005, he was ranked as number 7 in E’s Cutest Child All Grown Up.

2006 wasn’t exactly a good year for the young star. He got into a one-car accident after getting drunk. Osment was charged with driving drunk and possession of marijuana and faced three years of probation. He was also sentenced to spend 60 hours in the Alcohol Rehabilitation and Education Center. He later graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of Arts and currently lives in New York.

The Sixth Sense remains his crowning glory but Haley continues to regularly appear in film and television roles to this day.
