My Predictions For The Wins For The 2023 Academy Awards
Quote from NebraskaTrevor85 on March 9, 2024, 7:42 pmThe 96th Academy Awards happen tomorrow. Many of you have been wondering if I will post my predictions for the winners. I finally post it today, as is tradition on this site. Once again I will give my Should Win (SW), Will Win (WW) and Closest Threat (CT) picks for this year’s Oscars:
BEST PICTURE
SW & WW: Oppenheimer
CT: Poor ThingsAdmit it. We like it when a blockbuster that won us over wins Best Picture. Even a summer release that had endurance. Seems like forever since that happened. Oppenheimer looks to be the one to do the trick. Seems right since the biggest thing the movies of 2023 will be remembered for is "The summer of Barbenheimer!"
BEST DIRECTOR
SW & WW: CHRISTOPHER NOLAN/Oppenheimer
CT: YORGOS LANTHIMOS/PoorThingsIt seems like Christopher Nolan is the most overlooked superdirector in the business. In the past twenty years, he's created so many great films but has often been left shorthanded in big recognition. Looks like he will finally get his moment..
BEST ACTOR
SW & WW: CILLIAN MURPHY/Oppenheimer
CT: PAUL GIAMATTI/The HoldoversThe directing of Nolan may be one of the standout highlights of Oppenheimer, but it's the acting of Cillian playing J. Robert Oppenheimer that also makes the movie great too.
BEST ACTRESS
SW & WW: LILY GLADSTONE/Killers Of The Flower Moon
CT: EMMA STONE/Poor ThingsYou may already know this but if Lily Gladstone wins Best Actress, she will become the first-ever Native American actor or actress to win an acting Oscar. In an industry infamous for its "Cowboys and Indians" movies of the past, the win will mean that much more.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
SW & WW: ROBERT DOWNEY Jr./Oppenheimer
CT: RYAN GOSLING/BarbieIt's been a long road for Robert Downey Jr. from brat packer to Charlie Chaplin to infamous heroin crimes to coming back as Iron Man to the man who turns against J. Robert Oppenheimer. In fact you won't see a single drop of Tony Stark in his performance as Lewis Strauss. That's enough to want him to win.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
SW & WW: DA'VINE JOY RANDOLPH/The Holdovers
CT: EMILY BLUNT/OppenheimerIf there's anyone who can best steal the show from Paul Giamatti in The Holdovers, it was Da'Vine. The movie itself makes for an unlikely legendary Christmas movie for the future.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
SW &WW: JUSTINE TRIET/Anatomy Of A Fall
CT: DAVID HEMINGSON/The HoldoversThose who saw Anatomy Of A Fall will see why it was the darling of Cannes 2023. Who else misses seeing courtroom dramas?.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
SW & WW: CORD JEFFERSON/American Fiction
CT: TONY McNAMARA/Poor ThingsWe've all heard social media talk of OscarsSoWhite over the years. Turns out, it's like that in all facets of art where the ruling elite are mostly white 'limousine liberals' who don't get it. American Fiction satirizes that as author Monk takes full advantage of it.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
SW & WW: The Boy And The Heron
CT: Spider-Man: Across The Spider-VerseThis category has one of the tightest competitions. I picked The Boy And The Heron not just because it's a great story with great imagery, but because I know this Oscar doesn't normally go to sequels. The only sequels that have won in this category have been Toy Story sequels: TS3 in 2010 and TS$ in 2019.
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
WW: HOYTE van HOYTEMA/Oppenheimer
CT: RODRIGO PRIETO/Killers Of The Flower MoonBEST COSTUMING DESIGN
SW & WW: JACQUELINE DURRAN/Barbie
CT: HOLLY WADDINGTON/Poor ThingsA lot of people here were unhappy about Barbie's Best Picture nomination. I can understand but you have to admit Barbie had among the best costuming, set design and songs of the year.
BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
WW: 20 Days In Mariupol
CT: Four DaughtersIt's the nature of documentaries that it doesn't take long for a big moment in history to get a feature-length documentary about it. This journalist's account of the first 20 days of the War In Ukraine in the most devastated of cities is just the statement we need.
BEST FILM EDITING
SW & WW: JENNIFER LAME/Oppenheimer
CT: THELMA SCHOONMAKER/Killers Of The Flower MoonJennifer Lame's editing is far from lame!
BEST INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILM
SW & WW: The Zone Of Interest(UK)
CT: Society Of The Snow (Spain)FUN FACT: The Zone Of Interest is not the first time the UK has been nominated in this category. There were two films in the 1990's predominantly in Welsh that were nominated. Oscar rule changes are a funny thing, aren't they?
BEST MAKEUP and HAIRSTYLING
WW: Poor Things
SW & CT: MaestroBEST ORIGINAL SCORE
WW: ROBBIE ROBERTSON/Killers Of The Flower Moon
CT: LUDWIG GORANSSON/OppenheimerGorannson is highly favored to win but something tells me Robbie Robertson, who died this past August, might win it. For those into classic rock, you will remember Robbie Robertson from The Band with songs like The Weight and Up On Cripple Creek.
BEST ORIGINAL SONG
WW: “What Was I Made For?”/Barbie
SW & CT: “I'm Just Ken”/BarbieIf there's one category where Barbie is actually deserving of an Oscar, it's this category. Its songs are the standout movie songs of 2023.
BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN
WW: Poor Things
CT: BarbieBEST SOUND
WW: Maestro
CT: OppenheimerBEST VISUAL EFFECTS
WW: The Creator
CT: Godzilla Munus OneThis is one category where a lot of heavily favored films like Poor Things and Spider-Man: Across The SpiderVerse got snubbed out.
BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM
WW: WAR IS OVER!
CT: Letter To A PigBEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT SUBJECT
WW: The ABC's Of Book Banning
CT: The Barber Of Little RockBEST LIVE-ACTION SHORT FILM
WW: Red, White and Blue
CT: The Wonderful Story Of Henry SugarAnd there you go! Those are my predictions for the winners for the 96th Academy Awards. Jimmy Kimmel did a good job of hosting last year and all the stars behaved. Let's hope it happens again this year!

And there you go! Those are my predictions for the winners for the 96th Academy Awards. Jimmy Kimmel did a good job of hosting last year and all the stars behaved. Let's hope it happens again this year!
Quote from Waverly on March 12, 2024, 12:19 amExtremely pleased to see the atrocious, overrated, preachy feminist fluff Barbow walked away with just SONG, and that was because Hollywood wanted it to get something. I was hoping the earth opened and swallowed the building with them all gathered there, especially the loathsome idiot Jimmy Kimmel.

Quote from Luvthe70s N80s on March 16, 2024, 4:25 pmAfter many years, I watched, and I see the ridiculous political nonsense 4 is still a go as these people try to outdo each other to see who can hate Conservatives and Jews more. All those with that ridiculous red hand crap should be ashamed. I see they can get away with crap like that, but simply having conservative views, you are a pariah in Hollywood.
Now they pretend they are tolerant people, so what do you call a work place where people are harried and not able to work simply because of political views.
As for Jimmy Kimmel, what a loathsome man his very appearance is that of a disgusting, swarmy, completely dodgy scumbag all with his black face that is all forgiven because he got caught and apologized. Look. I hate to get into this type of rant, but I am sick of the whole Hollywood/Celebrity scene.

Well, a streak of conservatism in a 70s hippie. lol Kimmel is sleaze through and through, the things he must have in his closet waiting to be exposed.

There is some truth to that I reluctantly admit.
