Dennis the Menace (1959-63)
Quote from Trapped inthe70s on August 14, 2024, 10:44 amI bet most of you even the teens here have heard about Dennis the Menace, likely from Hank Ketcham's comic strip but more likely from the bad 1993 movie starring Walter Matthau or the mid 80s animated series and there was an 80s TV movie.
The 1959 to 63 series starring the cute blonded-haired Jay North was the true thing and such good family fun as TV shows from this era could only have compared to modern trash aimed at kids. Jay was born on August 3, 1951, and appeared in several series before landing the coveted role of Denis who drives his neighbor Mr. Wilson absolutely bonkers with his antics.
The show debuted the same year I was born so I was not an original viewer bounding home from school to see it but I did in the 70s when a local station was showing it on reruns. From all indications, the show was a hit for CBS back then, and Jay played the energetic Denis and we all knew trouble was on its way when we heard HI MR. WILSON.
Would Today's kids like it, naw even the fact that is in Black & White will put off this generation of spoiled brats but if so interested and you have access it can be seen on Antenna TV.

Quote from Film Noir on September 22, 2024, 12:13 amI loved the series as a kid, I did not see it in the first run because it started just the year I was born. It was one of those shows that was still syndicated in the late '60s to early '70s when I was a kid.
